Egypt: Settlement of the minister of the Culture of Moubarak judged for corruption

“Cairo – An Egyptian court paid off on Saturday the ex minister of Culture Farouk Hosni, posts during more than 20 years under the president today striped Hosni Moubarak, which was judged for corruption, as it was announced from judicial source.”

The criminal court of Guizeh, a suburb of Cairo, “decided to exculpate Farouk Hosni of the expenses of corruption and illegal enrichment”, declared this source. The ex minister had been threatened, during the announcement of his trial last September, to have to make 18 million Egyptian pounds (more than 2,1 million euro) origin of which he was charged with not have been able to explain. It was also accused “abuse of power in the exercise of its functions”.

According to the same source, Mr Hosni rejected during her audience on Saturday all these accusations, asserting “having worked during 23 years on the Ministry of Culture, managed several billions in achievements and cultural writings, without the slightest temptation to hoard”. Farouk Hosni was during more than two decennies minister of the Culture of Hosni Moubarak, overturned under the pressure of a popular uprising in Februar,y 2011. In the wake of the fall of regime, it had been put on the list of the persons forbidden to leave Egypt.

Numerous political leaders of epoch Moubarak were judged or were the object of chases after the fall of the ancient president, who purges a trouble of prison with perpetuity for murders made during the suppression of uprising against its regime himself. Mr Hosni had put his resounding failure at the head of the organization of the UNO for culture, science and education at the account of “conspiracy” and at “Zionist pressures”. Egyptian intellectuals had nevertheless put its balance sheet also in reason in the ministry, thinking that it had made “no notable progress” in the field of culture and that its longevity in the ministry was suspicious.
