“Reporters without borders express his deepest anxious concerning the arrest warrant thrown on October 27th, 2012 by Greek authorities contrary to the journalist Kostas Vaxevanis, chief editor of the weekly Hot doc and producer of the program Kouti Tis Pandoras (Limps Her with Pandôre) on national television. In the last edition of Hot doc.”
In the last edition of Hot doc, the journalist published a party of the said list “Lagarde”, a document in the indeterminate orifine which would regroup about 2 000 persons’ names which would be the object of inquiries for corruption and fiscal escape. The list Lagarde was the object of several contradictory statements on behalf of authorities, notably on behalf of the prime minister Antonis Samaras and on Minister of Finance Yannis Stournaras.
“We are particularly anxious of the fastness with which authorities issued the arrest warrant. Kostas Vaxevanis is not a dangerous criminal and would have simply been able to be administratively called. The pressure which makes weigh the arrest warrant on the journalist is obviously disproportional. This extreme procedure encourages moreover the blackout which authorities seem to want to impose on the treatment of this certainly sensitive affair but an incontestable public interest”.
“If authorities had to undertake the arrest of Kostas Vaxevanis, we demand that he can dispose from the first instants of the presence of a lawyer and that all his rights are respected. He would not know how to be in a member state of the European Union there in another way. We also say that the journalist is perfectly entitled to emphasize the necessary protection of his sources”.
